Perks of being a female in an eastern country cannot be denied and honestly, I always Thank God, a zillion times experiencing the privileges every now and then no matter it is in the ATM queue, carrying luggage, driving late, travelling alone, paying first, entering from a door, walking by roadside or parking a car ‘LADIES FIRST’ is such an exceptional universal truth that esp. ‘US’ [ladies in the east enjoys from hatch day till demise]. However, there are some constraints and a manual to follow too. Surviving summers in the east can be challenging yet it always arrives with my favorite fruits mangoes, Grewia asiatica (Falsa) and cherries. The scorching sunbeams can’t be put aside when these blessed fruits of heaven are gulped from your throat and jump into your belly leaving that heavenly essence on your taste bud lasts for long.
The day you start getting annoyed by trivial things and sweating more than your physical activity is the day to revisit your closet and to gear up for summers in the east. Born, brought up and living in a metropolitan city as an independent and educated uptown lady makes you an urban-desi and half ‘villayati’ if you intend to stay up-to-date and maintain a certain persona. Coping up with this term called Fashion Sense [ which is a very broad term and perceived differently by different sects, believes, SECs and LSMs in the country] is an art, no wait, it’s actually a science too and sometimes a bit of maths.
Yes, but with a smart brain and sense of shopping, you can turn your closet into an amazing wardrobe full of trendy and modish dresses to dress up like a chic. Not all those groovy and sassy outfits are expensive, it requires color, pattern, combination and a right choice of swag. Remember, that ” It doesn’t matter how much bucks you have spent on the rags you have got from an expensive so-called brand, it only depends on how you carry yourself and the lady in you will be the prettiest version of yourself!
There are a few rules of this game which are listed below and learned over the years after practicing and experiencing the results in real life:
1- Avoid getting fascinated by that 50 % off with that little annoying ‘Up to’ word on it.
2- Plan for a weekend and take out a couple of hours to revisit the available stuff in your closet, winter stuff should be packed into bags for next year, medium stuff should be put aside to wear occasionally on moderate and sunny to partially cloudy days and the last but not the least space for the summer stuff should be made.
BE THE SAVVY SHOPPER, ENJOY SHOPPING-SPREE ALL THE TIME
3- Know what makes you comfy, the type of cloth, the design, cut and colors, combination.
4- Search for current trends on the online magazine, unbranded Facebook pages which make replicas of the branded stuff are honestly the best sources of updating your closet without getting a hole in your pocket.
5- A few cost-effective and quality brands for urban, trendy, economical and up to date fashionable brands which I follow are: Cross Roads, Outfitters, BreakOut, BeachTree, Fifth Avenue, ChenOne, Stoneage and not to forget Zainab Market. You should also check the factory outlets of these brands located at various parts of the city.
6- Know what suits you regardless of the fact that it is bought from a kiosk, it is unbranded and you got it for a few bucks.

7- Avoid rushing to a nearby store when you see a sale until it goes Up to 70% which it surely will go. All you need to show is a bit patience, yes my friend you read it right! PATIENCE is the key to shopping more & more & even more…
8- Since we are trained to do shariah compliance fashion belonging to an upper-middle class or middle-class community and we do not have many options, therefore, we should forget the idea of too many sleeveless dresses, camisoles, middy, boxer, capris or anything which unnecessarily shows off your body.
9- There are still decent ways to stay trendy yet with Plazo, Bell-Bottoms, A-Line Pants, Straight Cigarette Pants, Tulip Shalwar, Plain Shalwar with a short-length Kurti, loose top, straight shirt with short sleeves, the choice of cloth should be floral, lawn, lawn-cotton mix, self-print, and nylon, regardless of the colors you pick, you will still rock the show 😉
10- A cherry on the top will be to buy trendy, big oval, round or hex shaped shades whichever suits your face type, flats which are open and usually provided with stripes gives enough space to the feet to breath and get an air.
11- Folding a floral or plain scarf around your bag may help you if you suddenly plan to do groceries, end up traveling by Auto or your car is broken in the mid of the rushing and crowded eastern street of the city.
12- The best scarves can be found at Zainab Market or Outfitters however if you have a few extra bucks you can check Khaadi or Ego too.
13- The last but not the least, drink plenty of water, eat organic, cut down fats and dairy, sleep well, stay hydrated and avoid applying too much make-up as your skin also needs oxygen. Oh yes! I was told by one of the beauticians giving me an oxygen facial and that too on 40% off 🙂
